Amazon considers Ohio for new expedited services hub & fulfillment center

Written by Dan Boaz | Nov 24, 2015

With the online market constantly growing its becoming more apparent than ever before that Amazon.com is now not just an online retailer, but a giant in the expedited freight and logistics field which has fueled their growth. Amazon currently operates over forty regional distribution centers across the United States and news this week suggests that they may soon be planning a giant new fulfillment center in Ohio.

E-commerce growth and the increasing demand for expedited deliveries have driven Amazon's need for better coverage in the Eastern U.S. and the Midwest which will see the company apparently construct a giant fulfillment center in Ohio. According to reports the chosen location is the Rickenbacker Global Logistics Park just outside of Columbus.

The report claims that Amazon plans to build a fulfillment center of about one million square feet which would reduce some of the strain in providing expedited services. Columbus is uniquely situated for such an operation as the location is within a one-day drive of approximately 50% of the population of the U.S. Perhaps as importantly the center would be less than a mile from Rickenbacker International Airport itself becoming an important hub in North American air cargo services.
