Every state in the union plays a part in the successful transportation of expedited freight via their respective highways, state routes and secondary surface roads. Each state's DOT are responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and safety of their transport networks so it is especially nice to see recognition given to a state for their roads.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has been recognized by the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) for their efforts in managing their own highway pavement network. The ACPS presented the “Harold Halm Presidential Award” to WisDOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb last week at the Wisconsin Concrete Pavement Association’s annual workshop Madison. Gerald F. Voigt, P.E., ACPA President and CEO said:
“For more than 50 years, WisDOT has proactively managed their pavement network. Their policies have resulted in some of the highest quality pavements and one of the most well-maintained pavement networks in the United States.”
Wisconsin's DOT oversees some 11,800 miles of state, federal and Interstate highways in addition to transit management of harbors, public transport, and airports. The ACPA award honors WisDOT for its “long-standing life-cycle cost and pavement-type selection policies” that “look beyond expedient choices and toward the prudent ones.”
