FREIGHT QUOTES

Freight Quotes That Hold From Pickup to Delivery

A low quote is only useful if it is still the price when the freight is delivered. Wrong weights, missing dimensions or a delivery site without a dock can add charges after the truck has left, and on an urgent load there is no time to renegotiate.

ExpeditedFreight.com quotes dedicated trucks from cargo vans to 53 ft trailers, plus air when the deadline is too tight to drive. An expeditor checks the details with you, confirms the truck and the rate before dispatch, and stays on the load until it is delivered.

A quote also has to match the freight that shows up at the dock. If the weight, pallet count or delivery site changes after booking, tell us before pickup, not after. We can adjust the truck and the rate in advance, which is much easier than sorting it out at the receiver.

Most quotes we write are for one of the three services below. The page then explains what a freight rate and a quote are, and what to have ready before you ask.

PALLET LOADS box-trucks

Box Trucks

A 12 to 16 ft box truck carries up to about 5,000 lbs, and a liftgate avoids extra charges at sites without a dock. Tell us early and it goes into the quote. It is a good fit for several pallets going across the region on a fixed deadline.

OVERSIZED FREIGHT flatbed-trucks

Flatbed Trucks

A 48 to 53 ft flatbed carries up to about 48,000 lbs. Accurate dimensions matter most here, because oversize loads can need permits. We confirm the load size and any permit needs before the quote is final.

Key idea

A quote fits one shipment

A freight quote is an offer for a specific shipment, on a specific date.

Freight quotes The basics

What a freight rate and a freight quote are

A freight rate is the price to move a shipment from one place to another. A freight quote is a provider's offer to move a specific shipment, on a specific date, for that rate. Some quotes are spot quotes for a single load at today's market price. Others come from contract rates agreed in advance for regular lanes.

Either way, a quote is only as accurate as the description behind it. If the weight, size or delivery site turns out different, the price can change.

Measure, weigh, count

Measured dimensions and a scale weight prevent most surprises after pickup.

Before you ask What to have ready

What to have ready

When a rough guess isn't the right fit for your shipment, a few minutes of measuring might be the answer. Accurate details are what make a quote hold.

Start with the pickup and delivery ZIP codes. Measure each piece, including the pallet, and weigh it on a scale rather than estimating. Count the pallets and note whether they can be stacked. Then add the site details: whether each end has a dock or needs a liftgate, and whether the delivery is residential or inside a building. Finish with the ready time and the deadline.

A quick photo of the freight can help too, especially for odd shapes. Those details let a provider pick the right vehicle the first time and avoid changes after pickup.

About box trucks

An enclosed truck with room for several pallets. It suits shipments too big for a van. The enclosed box keeps freight dry, and many have a liftgate for sites with no dock.

Quick guide

Weight and urgency decide

Parcel, LTL, a dedicated van or truck, a hot shot, a full truckload, or air for long, tight runs.

Choosing a service Which service

Which service fits your shipment

At ExpeditedFreight.com, we specialize in dedicated trucks that carry your freight from your dock to the delivery address with no delays in between. Before asking for a quote, it helps to know which service your shipment needs.

Light boxes within parcel weight and size limits usually go parcel. A few pallets with a flexible date often suit LTL, which shares a truck and stops at terminals. Urgent pallets go on a dedicated Sprinter van, box truck or straight truck. Heavy, open-deck items such as machinery suit a hot shot. A full trailer suits a full truckload, and long distances against a tight deadline call for air.

Weight and urgency decide most of it. Your shipment then stays with one vehicle from pickup to delivery.

What it means for you

Running a truck costs more than ever, and that cost sits inside every freight quote you receive. Accurate shipment details help a provider choose the right-sized vehicle, which is the simplest way we keep a dedicated quote efficient.

$3.660

Fuel is one of the biggest costs in trucking, so diesel prices move freight quotes up and down.

Expedited quotes Dedicated trucks

How expedited quotes work

A dedicated expedited quote is simpler than an LTL quote but covers more. It prices a whole vehicle for one trip, larger than a share of a truck but smaller than a contract for many loads.

The quote reflects the distance, the size of vehicle the freight needs and how soon it must arrive. It also reflects whether a two-driver team or a flight is needed to make the deadline. Because the freight has the vehicle to itself, there is no freight class and little risk of reweighs, as long as the details are accurate.

ExpeditedFreight.com confirms dedicated quotes through an expeditor rather than an automated form. That person can suggest a smaller vehicle or a different route if it saves time or money. They stay on the load once it is booked.

Why Cheap Freight Costs More: Mike Pettrey on Trust & Expedited Trucking

On this episode of On Air with AirFreight.com, host Kevin Carpenter sits down with Mike Pettrey, CEO of C&M Transport out of Painesville, Ohio — one of AirFreight.com's most trusted carrier partners and one of the oldest expedite companies in the country, now in its 35th year.

Mike shares how his father founded C&M around fair treatment of drivers and owner-operators, why straight trucks and sprinter vans became the backbone of the expedite industry, and how dedicated capacity mitigates cargo risk that traditional LTL can't. The conversation covers freight rate compression since 1991, the industry's price-driven race to the bottom, why regulatory crackdowns are (in their view) good for carriers who play it straight, and how technology — real-time tracking, proactive delay alerts — is raising the bar for customer transparency without replacing the human judgment calls that keep freight moving safely.

HowWe Work

One Person, Start to Finish

When you ask ExpeditedFreight.com for a quote, a real person reviews your shipment and confirms it. That same expeditor books the load and stays on it to delivery. Your request never sits in an inbox for a booking desk, and you never re-explain the shipment.

WhatWe Provide

The Right Mode, Every Time

A useful quote prices the vehicle that fits, not the biggest one available. Your freight gets its own vehicle, from a cargo van to a 53 ft trailer or flatbed, running straight to delivery. When distance beats the road, we quote air instead. If a smaller vehicle will do, your quote says so.

  • Vehicle sized to your freight
  • Air quoted when it is faster
  • Smaller vehicles suggested when they fit

Honest With You, Always

A quote is only useful if it holds. Every booking is confirmed in writing with the vehicle, pickup and rate before dispatch. With no shared truck, there are no terminal reweighs or reclassification surprises. Then the load is tracked 24/7, and if anything changes, you hear it from us first.

  • Written confirmation before dispatch

Freight Quote Questions Answered

What is a freight rate?

A freight rate is the price charged to move a shipment from one place to another. It reflects the distance, the weight and size of the freight, the type of service and equipment, how quickly it must arrive and any special handling. In LTL shipping, the rate also depends on freight class. Rates can be spot rates, set for a single load at current market prices, or contract rates agreed in advance for regular lanes. The total cost on a freight bill may include fuel and extra services on top of the base rate, depending on how the provider quotes.

What is a freight quote?

A freight quote is a provider's offer to move a specific shipment on a specific date for a stated price. It is based on the details the shipper supplies: pickup and delivery locations, weight, dimensions, pallet count, service level and any special requirements. Quotes are usually valid for a limited time, because truck capacity and fuel costs change. If the actual shipment differs from the description, the final charge can change. Getting quotes from several providers using the same accurate details is the best way to compare them fairly.

What is freight class?

Freight class is a standardized category used mainly in LTL shipping to price freight based on how easy it is to transport. The National Motor Freight Classification system assigns classes from 50 to 500 using four factors: density, stowability, ease of handling and liability. Dense, sturdy freight gets a lower class and costs less to ship, while light, bulky or fragile freight gets a higher class. Getting the class right matters, because carriers can reclassify a shipment and charge more if the stated class is wrong. Dedicated trucks and air freight do not use freight class.

How is freight density calculated?

Freight density is the weight of a shipment divided by its volume. To calculate it, measure the length, width and height of the shipment in inches, including the pallet, and multiply them to get cubic inches. Divide by 1,728 to convert to cubic feet. Then divide the total weight in pounds by the cubic feet. The result is the density in pounds per cubic foot. Higher density usually means a lower freight class and a lower LTL price. Measuring at the tallest and widest points avoids underestimating the volume.

What is a reweigh?

A reweigh happens when a carrier weighs a shipment at its terminal and finds it heavier than the weight on the bill of lading. The carrier then adjusts the charges to match the actual weight. Reweighs are common in LTL shipping, where freight passes through terminals with certified scales. They can add unexpected costs if the original weight was estimated rather than measured. Weighing freight on a scale before shipping, including the pallet and packaging, and recording the exact figure on the bill of lading is the simplest way to avoid reweigh adjustments.

What is a freight reclassification?

A freight reclassification happens when a carrier inspects an LTL shipment and decides it belongs in a different freight class than the one stated by the shipper. Because class affects price, a move to a higher class usually raises the charge. Reclassifications often follow an inspection or a remeasurement at a terminal that shows a lower density than expected. Accurate dimensions and weight, a correct commodity description and the right class on the bill of lading reduce the risk. Some shippers keep records or photos of their freight to support the class they chose.

What is a spot quote?

A spot quote is a price for moving a single shipment based on current market conditions, rather than a rate agreed in advance. Spot quotes are common for one-time, irregular or urgent loads, and for shipments too large for standard LTL pricing. Because they reflect today's balance of trucks and freight, spot quotes rise when capacity is tight and fall when it is loose. They are usually valid for a short time. Expedited freight is almost always quoted on a spot basis, because each urgent load has its own route, vehicle and deadline.

What is a contract rate?

A contract rate is a price agreed in advance between a shipper and a carrier or broker for moving freight on specific lanes over a set period, often a year. The shipper usually shares expected volumes, and the provider commits to capacity at that rate. Contract rates change less often than spot rates, which makes budgeting easier, but they can be harder to secure for irregular freight. If the market tightens sharply, some contract loads may be harder to cover. Contract rates suit steady, predictable freight, while spot quotes suit one-off and urgent shipments.

What is linehaul?

Linehaul refers to the main movement of freight between two points, usually the long-distance portion of a trip. In pricing, the linehaul rate is the base charge for that movement, separate from fuel and any extra services. In LTL networks, linehaul also describes the trucks that run between terminals, as opposed to the local pickup and delivery routes. Industry rate reports often track linehaul separately so changes in fuel prices do not hide changes in the underlying market. For a dedicated truck, the linehaul covers driving the vehicle from pickup to delivery.

What is dimensional weight?

Dimensional weight, also called volumetric weight, is a way of charging for the space a shipment takes up rather than only its actual weight. The provider multiplies the length, width and height and divides the result by a set factor. If that figure is higher than the actual weight, the shipment is billed at the dimensional weight. It mostly applies to parcel and air shipments, where space is limited. Light, bulky items are affected most. For dedicated trucks, the size of the vehicle matters more than dimensional weight, but accurate dimensions are still essential.
